Leadership Position: Director, Board of Directors (three openings)

Reports to: AHEPPP Board of Directors President
Length of Term: Three years, renewable. (January 2026-December 2028)
Time Commitment: Average 3–5 hours per week; varies depending on season

Role Summary

The mission of AHEPPP is to support professionals in higher education who promote student success through informed parent and family engagement. As elected officials of the organization, the Board of Directors provides leadership and strategic governance to support the organization's membership. The role of the Board of Directors centers on the fundamental responsibilities of providing the organization with sound governance, fiduciary oversight, strategic direction, and representation across various institutional types, sizes, and geographic regions.

What’s Involved?

Board members serve a three-year term, with the possibility of renewal. The average time commitment is 3–5 hours per week, which includes:

  • Monthly virtual board meetings
  • Two annual in-person meetings (including one at the National Conference)
  • Service on committees and working groups
  • Engagement with members and strategic initiatives

Board Responsibilities

  • Ensure the mission of the organization is carried out and understood
  • Provide support and oversight to volunteer leadership roles and key organizational functions
  • Strategic and organizational planning
  • Ensure strong fiduciary oversight and financial management
  • Support professional and resource development
  • Support the organization's programs and services
  • Enhance the organization's public image
  • Uphold legal and ethical integrity

Who Should Apply?

We’re seeking thoughtful and dedicated professionals who are eager to contribute their time, ideas, and energy. All candidates must meet the minimum criteria and are encouraged to demonstrate additional preferred qualifications.

Minimum Criteria

  • AHEPPP membership for at least two years
  • At least five years of professional experience in higher education
  • Institutional support to attend two in-person Board meetings and the annual National Conference
  • Commitment to the mission and values of AHEPPP
  • Willingness to collaborate in a mission-driven, team-oriented environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous involvement with AHEPPP (e.g., presenting at conferences, serving on a committee, volunteering at events, or participating in the mentor program)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience at your institution or within professional organizations
  • Contributions to the field through professional development, publications, or innovative programming
  • Ability to offer new perspectives or represent varied institutional types, roles, or geographic regions
  • Interest in supporting AHEPPP’s strategic priorities and forward-looking goals

Application Requirements

To be considered for the AHEPPP Board of Directors, applicants must submit the following:

  • Current resume or CV
  • Letter of support from your direct supervisor indicating institutional support for your candidacy and approval for travel to attend two in-person Board meetings and the annual National Conference
  • A short professional bio (approx. 100 words)
  • A high-resolution professional headshot

In addition, applicants will respond to the following questions (300-word limit each):

  • What inspires you to serve on the AHEPPP Board of Directors, and how does your professional experience align with our mission to promote student success through informed parent and family engagement?
  • What specific strengths, perspectives, or skills would you bring to the Board that will help advance AHEPPP’s strategic priorities and programs?
  • How have you demonstrated leadership—formally or informally—within AHEPPP, at your institution, or in the broader field of higher education? How would you continue that leadership as a Board member?
